Letter file binder (30 x 27 cm) containing fifty handwritten letters and telegrams addressed to Adolfo Hegewisch, president
of the Quintera Mining company, from various interested parties in a dispute involving operations and transactions concerning
the Quintera Mining Company located in Sonora, Mexico. The interested parties include W.W. MacFarland, the Banque Franco-Egyptienne,
and José M. Ortiz. Most of the letters are in Spanish and French with a few in English. Three of the English letters are from
W.W. MacFarland, an investor, questioning the management of the mine and financial transactions made by the Banque Franco-Egyptienne
that also involve the Rosario Mining Company. Letters are tipped into the binder in reverse chronological order.

Adolfo (sometimes spelled Adolf or Adolph or Adolphe) Hegewisch was appointed permanent receiver of the Quintera and Rosario
Mining Company by the Supreme Court of New York in 1884. He was also the founder of the Hegewisch community in Chicago, Illinois.
William Wallace MacFarland was a New York lawyer. In 1884, he sued the Banque of Franco-Egyptienne and the Quintera Mining
Company for $500,000 in damages for fraudulent transactions involving the Quintero Mining Company and Rosario Mining Company.
The Quintera Mining Company silver mine was located at La Aduana, near Alamos in Sonora, Mexico.
Banque Franco-Egyptienne merged with the French Bank of South Africa in 1901 to form the French Bank for Trade and Industry.
